  • Michaela [Lakeland teen dance photography]

Over the past year I have gotten the chance to photograph several middle school dancers.  These girls have blown me away with their leaps, jumps, and kicks!  Seriously.  They work so hard during these sessions so I can get “the shot”.  It’s amazing.  Michaela’s parents bought her a Real Me session in honor of her 13th birthday.  Michaela is a beautiful teen that I have been photographing for the past 7 or 8 years.  I think that’s what made this session extra special for me.  Not only is she an amazingly strong dancer, she’s simply a beautiful girl with a heart for God and a smile that’s contagious.   I love watching kids grow up….it’s a perk of my job that I truly cherish.

Now….enough of my yacking, here’s just a sample of the crazy good images we captured the night of her session.  Enjoy!

  • Quinceanara portraits

Over the years, I have been asked to take pictures of young ladies ahead of their Quinceanera parties.  They have always been casual dress portraits to use on invitations or in an album in preparation for the big day.  But back in February, I was asked for the first time in my career to photograph a beautiful young lady IN her gown!   I was so excited going into this session.  What made it especially fun was that the family wanted traditional studio portraits AND some done on location.  She looked amazingly gorgeous…and I just love the way all of these images turned out.

  • Twin Sisters

A few months ago I met these amazingly beautiful and funny twin sisters.  They were 10 when we did this session, but they actually just turned 11 last week.  I wished so much that I had had more time with them!  I loved watching their interactions with each other and with their mom.  And I think the pictures show just how much personality they each have in their own unique ways.  Enjoy!

  • Welcome to Real Me Teens

A little over a year ago, I made a shift in the direction of my photography to start working more and more with teens.  Part of it was completely natural.  I’ve been in business long enough now that a lot of my baby and children clients have grown up into amazing teenagers.  But a big part of the shift was intentional.   I have always worked with high school seniors, but this past year I really wanted to focus a lot on the middle school age as well.  I’ve written a lot on my blog and on facebook about my heart behind these tween/teen sessions.  Here’s the link to the post from Sept 2015 that I wrote about “Why Tweens?”.  Please take a moment to read it if you haven’t already.

After a full year of tween and teen sessions, and even more and more senior sessions, I knew it was time for the next step.  In January I hired Bright Ideas to rebrand my entire business.  Lydia, the creative genious behind Bright Ideas,  gave me a new logo and a new brand identity for Beth Carter Photography.  Be sure to go take a look around on that site as well.  It has a whole new look and updated galleries and I just love it!   But in the process of branding my business, we talked a lot about the teen work I’ve been doing, and my heart in wanting to build up teens and showcase what’s great about them.  So we came up with a separate brand – Real Me.  So simple, yet so perfect.  It’s exactly what I hope to give the teenagers I work with – the chance to show their “real me” in the images we create together.  This entire site is devoted to all the amazing tweens, teens and seniors I’ve had the priviledge of meeting and working with.  Take a look around, and please read through all the ways you can use a Real Me session for the teen in your life.

And because every post needs a picture….here’s my favorite shot from a dance session a few weeks ago.  This session was gift to her as a gift for her 13th birthday.

  • Nick – Class of 2016 [Lakeland high school photographer]

I’d like to take a moment today to share a few favorites from another senior session I had a couple of weeks ago.  This is Nick.  Nick is in ROTC and is in the process of becoming an Eagle Scout.  He is very strong in his faith and has one of the biggest and most contagious smiles I’ve seen.   We had fun on this chilly morning and the pictures turned out great.  Thanks Nick for doing everything I asked!  I know your family is very proud of you. 🙂

  • Grace – Class of 2016 [Lakeland & Bartow high school senior photography]

I just finished up ordering prints from this fun session.  This is Grace…class of 2016.  We met a few months ago for her senior session one morning and had tons of fun.  She brought her mom and a friend (senior sessions are a lot more fun with friends following us around!).   She’s such a beautiful girl….smart….and plays lacrosse.  I loved incorporating her sport into the session.  And I really love that she stayed in a dress for her action shots.  Kind of a cool contrast.  Here are a few of my favorites from her session.  Enjoy!

  • Vanessa class of 2016 [Lakeland Senior Photography]

I love working with teenagers.  And I love high school seniors especially.   This particular senior had been on my calendar for a couple of months.  I have photographed her several times over the years and was so excited to meet with her for this occasion.  She’s a truly beautiful girl, inside and out.   Her beautiful mama jumped in to some of the pictures too which is always fun.   The day we met was probably one of the hottest days in the month of December – I think the high was 87 degrees.  We were all melting, but you wouldn’t know it looking at her images!  Here are just a few of MANY.  She rocked this session – she could seriously be a model.   Congrats Vanessa!  Good luck with your last semester! 2016-01-21_00022016-01-21_00032016-01-21_00042016-01-21_00052016-01-21_00062016-01-21_00072016-01-21_00102016-01-21_00112016-01-21_00122016-01-21_00132016-01-21_00152016-01-21_00162016-01-21_0017

  • Madison [Lakeland teen & tween photography]

This sweet girl was the winner of the individual Instagram giveaway I had back in February.  She met me an a downtown area, again on a cold morning in February.  I love how we incorporated her love of reading and her Bose headphones.    These sessions are all about letting kids be themselves!

  • BFF’s [Lakeland teen & tween photography]

Back in February, I did a promotion on Instagram and gave away a BFF session to the lucky winner.  These girls have been best friends since preschool!  We had a blast together on a pretty chilly morning in downtown Lakeland.  These girls were natural models….seriously.

  • Taylor & Lexi [Lakeland tween & teen photography]

When I first started thinking about what kind of tween sessions I wanted to do this year, I already knew the first two models I wanted to use.  These girls are best friends and are the daughters of two very good friends of mine.  I’ve known them since they were little girls and have watched them grow into beautiful young ladies with big hearts and such sweet spirits.  They were totally on board with doing this session! Besides a few outfit changes, I had also asked them to bring a few other props that really represented THEM.  Taylor plays volleyball, and Lexi is an accomplished ballerina.  Showcasing both of those talents was a must. 🙂  Here are my favorites from their session….

Lexi’s little sister tagged along on this shoot.  She’s an amazing artist, so she brought her pencils and spent her time drawing the Florida Polytechnic Building.  I grabbed a couple of shots of her as well.
